We're Full! But you can add your name to the Wait List! And you can still ride for 1 or 2 days!We would love to have you join our ride and you have a few options! As it says above, our full-time rider list is full (we can only allow 40 per our permit), but we can add day-riders for up to 2 days. Same thing, sign-up using the form below, indicate which days you'd like to ride with us on the form.
You can ride 1-2 days with the group. You pay a $50 entry fee per day. 2 day max. You will get a hat while supplies last. You don't get the shirt or discount at the Banquet, but you can purchase hats and shirts (please request prior to Nov 1st if possible). Ride 3 or more days / Full-time Riders (we hope you'll join us for the week!) requires the $75 registration fee + a minimum of $500 in pledges. The $500 is a suggested amount and if you can't quite come up with that much, don't worry. Use the Pledge Form to keep track of your supporters and use the Receipt page to provide receipts for those pledges (they are tax deductible!). If you'd like to order additional caps, tee-shirts or sweatshirts, please contact Mark Smolen at (406) 407-0301. Caps are $25, Tee-shirts range from $20-30 (depending on size) and Sweatshirts are $40-65 (depending on size). Prices may vary due to the number we order--may go up or down a bit. Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ
Q: Do we actually ride snowmobiles/snow bikes across the entire state?
A: No. The TMR is a week long series of rides in 5-6 different areas. We drive/trailer the sleds between each location. But we do traverse the state from north to south (more or less...see Route page)!
Q: Who provides the equipment?
A: Each rider is responsible for providing their own equipment. Rental equipment may be available in/near most of the riding locations if you wanted/needed to rent snowmobiles (you would be responsible for all arrangements). Rentals are difficult in many locations, but are possible in some areas.
Q: Does TMR transport our sleds?
A: No. Each rider is responsible for transporting their own gear.
Q: Where do we stay each night?
A: The TMR organizes where we stay, but each rider is responsible for making their own reservations. The TMR works to get a special discount at each hotel for the group. Riders pay for their own hotels. Riders are not required to stay at the venue the TMR chooses.
Q: How much does this all cost?
A: Not counting the Registration fees/pledges to TMR/NAMI, one should budget the following:
Lodging: $600, Meals: $200-300, Snowmobile Fuel: $2-300, Vehicle Fuel: $3-500
Many riders share rooms/trucks/trailers and split the costs to save money.
Q: What kind of gear do I need?
A: We ride trails and off-trail, so a mountain or cross-over sled is recommended (mountain sleds are most common). Snow bikes are also welcome! You should also have the normal safety gear (shovel, avalanche beacon, radio, first aid kit, tethered engine shut-off). Obviously, it's winter so warm clothing is a must. Your sled/bike must also be properly registered and have the appropriate Montana Trail Pass. If you do not have avalanche safety equipment, please call or email Wally or Mark to discuss.
Q: What if I just like trail riding?
A: No problem! There are days where we may split the group into back-country riders and trail/easy-riders. We also have the local club riders guide us each day so that we see the best they have and make sure we go places that keep us safe. If you are from out of state, we try to have a good trail ride for trail riders, but some days are more "mountain riding". Call Mark to discuss if you have concerns.
Q: Is there any age limit to ride the TMR?
A: Riders must be 16 or be with a parent (same rules as the state of Montana). There is no upper age limit...many of our riders are retired and enjoying the ride every year. Last year our wisest rider was 76 years young!
Q: Can women do this ride?
A: You betcha! We encourage women to come ride with us...it's just too beautiful and fun to stay home! We have had many women do the ride.
Q: Can I ride just for 1 or 2 days and do I have to come up with $500 in pledges?
A: Yes, you can ride for a day or two with us and just pay a $50 Registration Fee per day (no hat, discounts). No, you don't have to come up with the pledge money if you are riding two days or less. We ask those that are riding more than two days to consider yourself a full-time rider and collect/donate the pledge money.
Q: Can my company sponsor the ride and get promoted?
A: Absolutely! We are seeking corporate sponsors of all sizes--all monies raised will go to NAMI. See our Donate Page for more! To see our current sponsors, see our Sponsors Page!
Q: Can I supply cash and physical donations worth more than $500 for the auction and have it count for my contribution?
A: Absolutely! All we ask is that you truly believe we'll get at least $500 total when we auction off your items (silent / live auction at the MSA Banquet).
Q: Do I have to donate the entire $500 or can I have my friends and family make smaller donations on my behalf?
A: Many folks direct their friends to our Donation page. Please just have them send us a quick email at donation@trans-montana.org to tell us who they are supporting.
